GETTING BACK ON THE BIKE IN 2017

January is one of the most challenging months of the year to start and maintain a fitness regime.  Over the years I've heard plenty of excuses for avoidance and loads of reasons why next month will be a better time to start.  Between lazy days at the beach, summer BBQs, socialising with friends and the distraction of events, I've heard them all.  But believe me when I say you'll get even more out of summer (and the rest of your year) by making the time now to exercise.

1. START NOW

There is no denying that when you hop on the bike and pedal off on one of your favourite rides you are instantly transformed into a different person. A person that is pumped, a person that wants to ride more, train more, get faster and stronger and then always ends up with wanting a new bike! As soon as you finish reading the rest of this article get on your bike!

2. FIND YOUR MOJO

Something else we all know is that New Year’s Resolutions don’t work. After more than 20 years dealing with peoples goals and dreams it is my belief that step 2 in 2016 should be to find your mojo! It’s not that simple but l assume we all love cycling so to get your mojo it’s simply a matter of riding. Now the only catch is it needs to be done regularly and as part of a routine. Why you may ask? Any activity that is done regularly it slots into your natural flow. Many studies have been written on the importance of flow in your life which leads to total happiness, and it is at this point you will get your bike mojo.

3. SET INSPIRATIONAL GOALS

Now you have your mojo, you are already inspired, you have good regular riding habits in place so set some goals that will inspire you.

4. TRAIN SMART

Training does not have to be a slog but it does need to be smart. Times have changed and even some experts will agree that focused higher intensity training can produce amazing aerobic gains. Unless you have heaps of time there is no need to pack too many long rides into every week, just do one big ride on the weekend. Outside of that train with purpose. And if you are not sure seek advice.

At Cycle Collective we have different classes that focus on the different components that make a great cyclist so talk to us to find out which classes you need to do.

5. TRAIN WITH FRIENDS

Although training can be challenging at times, a friend sitting beside you can make all the difference. Grab a coffee together after the session and share the experience.
